Telangana NRI commission was looking for

TPCC Vice President and Palakurthi Hanumandla Jhansi Constituency In-Charge Rajender Reddy urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to set up a special Telangana NRI Commission to protect the interests and rights of non-residents of Telangana and address their grievances.

She along with Government Whip Addanki Dayakar met the Chief Minister and presented a statement outlining the need for a statutory mechanism to coordinate with the Telangana diaspora across the globe.

She said thousands of people from Telangana live abroad, but the absence of a dedicated institutional mechanism to coordinate directly with the state government leaves many NRIs to solve their problems on their own, she said.

Among the proposals in the delegation was a dedicated grievance redressal mechanism for NRIs and their families and assistance in property, land, legal and administrative matters. The proposed commission could also coordinate relief to citizens of Telangana during emergencies abroad and facilitate a transparent single window system for NRI investment, she said.

Ms. Jhansi Reddy also suggested setting up a comprehensive database and communication network of Telangana NRIs and creating stronger linkages between state administration ministries and overseas Telangana associations.

She said several other states have set up specialized institutions to address the problems of their overseas communities and Telangana could similarly create an institutional framework for its diaspora.
