Four get life imprisonment for Kannur murder

The Thalassery Additional District and Sessions Court-I sentenced four persons to life imprisonment and fined each of them ₹50,000 for killing K. Ajith Kumar of Pullippikkadav, Unnathi, Kannur.

Judge CJ Denny sentenced V Niyas, P Mukesh and K Reneesh, all natives of Kottali, and Namit Balakrishnan, a resident of Attadappa, to jail.

The incident took place on 19 October 2015 in Pullippikkadav. According to the prosecution case, Ajith Kumar was talking to his friend Nizamuddin when the accused, led by Niyas and armed with weapons, reached the spot and attacked them.

While Ajith Kumar died in the attack, Nizamuddin sustained injuries. The police registered a case on Nizamuddin’s complaint.

The prosecution filed its indictment on 13 October 2016. Of the 52 witnesses cited, 36 were examined during the trial. Public Prosecutor K. Ajith Kumar appeared for the prosecution.
