Bihar man accused of murdering wife in Bengaluru

A man allegedly murdered his wife after a fight at their rented house in Bilekahalli in south Bengaluru on Wednesday and tried to pass it off as an accidental death by dousing her face with hot cooking oil, police said.

The deceased was identified as Gunja, 38. Mico Layout police arrested Ranjit Kumar, 41.

A couple from Bihar has been living in Mico Layout since December 2025 along with their children aged 11 and 7. The couple had frequent arguments over the past three months over domestic issues, according to police.

Ranjit had an argument with Gunjan on Wednesday morning when the children were at school. the police said. He allegedly strangled her with a veil, causing her death. An investigator told The Hindu that the couple had an argument on Tuesday and Ranjit escalated it the next morning.

“Ranjit tried to pass it off as an accidental death, feigning innocence in front of his neighbours. However, the house owner lodged a suspicion of death and subsequent interrogation revealed Ranjit’s role,” the officer said.

The police filed an FIR against Ranjit under Section 103(1) of the IPC.
