An agricultural team led by Directorate of Pulses Development, Bhopal, Mahesh Kumar recently conducted an extensive field inspection in Yadgir district.

The high-level visit reviewed the field implementation under the Union Government’s Mission for Atma Nirbharta in Pulses (MAP) scheme.

Field operations

The team inspected the mechanized sowing of red gram in Arakera (K) village in Yadgir taluk and also Doranahalli and Halisagar in Shahapur taluk. Samples of pulse mini sets were reviewed at Panchasheela Nagar and Tatalgera in Gurmitkal taluk.

The officials evaluated the configuration of several multi-crops including red gram, sorghum, cotton, paddy and sunflower in Chepetla, Kamalnagar, MT Palli and Kandkur villages of Gurmitkal taluk.

Field demonstrations emphasized integrated pest management—including biological pheromone traps and the use of sorghum as natural bird perches for pest control—along with mechanical chipping to promote branching and increase yields.

Dr. Kumar also evaluated plots for seed production and Cluster Frontline Demonstration fields managed by ICAR-KVK, Yadgir, across station trials and farms at Rukmapur and Khanapur (SH) villages in Shorapur taluk.

​Senior Scientist and Head at ICAR-Krisi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kawadimatti Jaiprakash Narayan RP, announced that ICAR-KVK has successfully produced 506 quintals of high yielding red gram seeds (varieties GRG-152, GRG-811 and TS-3R) during its revolving fund on 20.20.

He formally requested a new seed center project to utilize the drought-tolerant Krishna and Bhima district command channels.

The visit concluded with more than 30 progressive farmers appreciating the visiting officials. Participating growers received premium inputs, soil health toolkits and advisory guidance on the MSP framework.

Hampanna YL, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Suresh B., Deputy Director of Agriculture, ADAs of Shorapur and Shahapur, Hobli Agriculture officers and key staff of the department were present.
