Rich honors were paid to the Social Reformer of the 12th Century Basavann on the occasion of her anniversary in Mysur’s birth on Wednesday.
Basava Jayanti celebrations were organized by the District Administration and the Ministry of Kannada and Culture. The event started with floral tributes offered by a statue of Basavanna in Basaveshware Circle near Gun House. The leaders of various political parties, officials and prominent personalities participated.
Among the present was Chidananda Swami from Sri Hosamath, Mla GT Deve Gowd, MLC MANJY GOWDA, Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, MCC Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif.
Later, a program was held in Kalamandira, which was inaugurated by the president of the MLA and KPCC Tanveer Sait, in the presence of higher officials and other dignitaries.
Mr. Sait, who spoke on this occasion, described Basavanna as the main light for humanity in the 12th century and emphasized the ongoing importance of his philosophy. He noted that Basavann’s doctrine refused sex and caste discrimination and confirmed the principle of equality for all.
Another representative of the Commissioner Shivaraju called on everyone to accept the ideals of Basavann in their daily lives.
Rajaskara Jamadandi delivered the address of the key lecture. During the program, MLA TS Srivatsa and MLC Thimmaiah spoke.
