KKR coach wants Rohit Sharma in Kolkata, Batter’s response wins hearts on game show

Rohit Sharma found himself at the center of IPL teasing as former India batting coach Abhishek Nayar teased him with Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders chants, only for the former India skipper to give Mumbai Indians fans a reason to smile. The exchange took place during Rohit Family’s new TV show Full House with Rohit Sharma.

Nayar, a close friend of Rohit’s and the current head coach of KKR, spotted the veteran batsman dressed exclusively in yellow and suggested that it could be an allusion to his next IPL franchise, with CSK being the obvious reference. He then added that yellow and gold suits Rohit better, drawing KKR into the banter.

The crowd soon joined in chanting “Mumbai, Mumbai”, prompting Rohit to give a one-word reply that is sure to please MI fans.

“Forever,” Rohit replied.

The interaction was part of the trailer for Family Full House with Rohit Sharma, which marks his telecast debut and premieres on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV on September 19.

YELLOW JOKES, MI QUESTIONS

The prank comes amid a lot of questions surrounding Mumbai Indians after another difficult IPL campaign. Hardik Pandya faced significant criticism during his tenure as captainwith MI finishing ninth in IPL 2026 after managing just four wins, while the previous season also ended in disappointment despite the team making it to the playoffs.

Pandya’s own future has also become a major point of discussion. Reports claimed that the all-rounder wanted to leave MI and explored a return to Gujarat Titans, while KKR and other franchises have also reportedly shown interest. His return to Mumbai from Gujarat in 2024 was completed through a deal involving his Rs 15 crore along with an undisclosed transfer fee.

This uncertainty has inevitably fueled speculation about Rohit’s own IPL future, especially given his history with MI and his five IPL titles as captain. For now, however, his answer to “Forever” suggests that his emotional connection with Mumbai remains intact.

IS WEST INDIES ROHIT LAST?

The bigger question surrounding Rohit now is what’s to come for India. Having already retired from Tests and T20Is, the 39-year-old is now only playing ODI cricket, with the three-match West Indies series starting on September 27 potentially the next major chapter in his international career.

Rohit remains in India’s ODI squad after scoring 138 against England at Lord’s on his last appearance, an innings that strengthened the case for his continued presence despite the ongoing debate over his future at the 2027 World Cup.

Still, Rohit has not committed to the 2027 World Cup.

“October 2027 is far, we will see then,” said Rohit.

Rohit said this while discussing his ODI future and his prospects of taking part in the 2027 World Cup, leaving his plans outside the immediate international calendar open.

This leaves the West Indies series as an interesting marker. It may not be Rohit’s last ODI assignment, but with his Test and T20I career now over, every series now carries the possibility of being his last.
