Surendra Koli, acquitted in the Nithari serial killing case, died by suicide, according to police

Surendra Koli, who was acquitted by the Supreme Court in 2025 of all charges in connection with the 2006 Nithari serial murders, died by suicide in Bhupatwala area, Haridwar police said on Friday.

Koli hanged himself, Jansatta reported. Surendra Koli has been selling tea in Haridwar for the past few months, the report added.

Surendra Koli’s body was reportedly found hanging in a tea shop. Locals immediately informed the police as soon as they came to know about the incident.

The police took the body into custody and sent it for an autopsy.

The police later revealed that the deceased was identified as Surendra Koli, an accused in the Nithari case. The Supreme Court acquitted him in 2025.

According to the report, Surendra Koli lived in a slum in Haridwar’s Bhupatwala area for some time. He earned his living by running a tea stall nearby.

Surendra Koli’s connection with the Nithari murder case

Koli worked as a domestic help in the Noida house of businessman Moninder Singh Pandher.

The Nithari case came to light in 2006 when skeletal remains, skulls and bones were discovered from a backyard and a drain near a bungalow (D-5) belonging to Pandher in Sector 31, Noida.

The gruesome findings, which revealed the disappearance and killing of several children and women, sparked national outrage and terrorized the local community.

Pandher, a co-accused in the case, was also in jail for years, but was released on 20 October 2023 after acquitting him in the case.

Koli, who was 30 when he was arrested in 2006, has received several death sentences in different cases over the years.
