Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday (17 September 2026) slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the recent transfer of IPS officer Bushra Bano for her Islamic salute, saying “her words shake a party so big and powerful”.
“The move of Bushra Bano after saying ‘Assalamu Alaikum’, ‘InshaAllah’ and ‘JazakAllah’, followed by the President of West Bengal calling the election a ‘test’ of Muslim loyalty, a hidden threat to the community as a whole, no longer shocks us,” Ms Mufti said.
Vocabulary guarded
Ms Mufti said she was amused that “three simple words ‘peace be upon you’, ‘God willing’ and ‘God be praised’ could apparently shake such a large and powerful party.
“First our food, clothes and marriage, now even our dictionary and our votes are being policed. Insecurity, your name is BJP,” Ms Mufti said.
Ms. Bano, who was posted as Additional Commandant Kharagpur in Paschim Medinipur district, has been transferred to the post of Deputy Commandant, 4th SAP Battalion.
