Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy questioned Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s praise of the Nizam’s rule in the legislature and asked why Telangana’s freedom fighters and iconic figures like Komuram Bheem, Chakali Ailamma and Doddi Komuraiah fought against the Nizam’s rule if it was as “good” as it was portrayed to be.

Addressing the Telangana Liberation Day celebrations organized by the Centre, Mr Kishan Reddy criticized the Congress and the BRS for allegedly glorifying the Nizam’s rule for sectional appeasement and “bowing down” to AIMIM.

He also questioned why people in villages had to build fortified structures or burujus to protect themselves from Razakars attacks if the Nizam was a superior ruler. He also quoted poet Bandi Yadagiri’s famous anti-Nizam song and asked why there were such voices of protest when the Nizam’s administration was so exemplary.

“Mr. Revanth Reddy owed an explanation to the people of Telangana for defending the Nizam’s rule,” demanded Mr. Reddy. He said that historical accounts of Nizam rule, Razakar violence and suffering of people should not be suppressed for political reasons. He compared this to the way Nazi atrocities continue to be commemorated in Germany as a warning to future generations and said the history of the Nizams and Razakars should also be told to the people.

Mr. Kishan Reddy said the BJP had been demanding official recognition of September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day since the 1980s and had faced arrests, cases and police action during its campaign.

He said that a day would come when by 2029 liberation day celebrations would be officially organized in every village, gram panchayat, government school and public square in Telangana.
