‘Swachhata Hi Seva-2026’ campaign begins today in Vizag
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) will conduct a month-long ‘Swachhata Hi Seva-2026’ campaign starting on Thursday, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said in a release on Wednesday.
The campaign will be launched at 9 am on Thursday at GR Nagar Colony in GVMC East Zone. As part of the launch, there will be special events focused on cleanliness, hygiene activities and public awareness programs.
Mr Garg said the campaign would follow five key pillars: cleanliness of target units and public places; student and youth participation through “Swachh Pathshala–Yuva for Swachhata”; health, safety and welfare of sanitation workers through ‘SafaiMitra Suraksha Evam Samman Shivir’; public participation in ‘Jan Bhagidari for Swachhata’; and “Swachhata Se Samriddhi” focusing on reduction, reuse and recycling and prevention of single-use plastics.
Activities will include cleanliness, awareness and beautification drives at public places, markets, residential colonies, tourist areas and water bodies. Door-to-door awareness, waste sorting and home composting will also be encouraged.
The one-hour mass shramdaan will be held on October 1 from 8 am to 9 am under the slogan ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’. ‘Swachh Bharat Diwas’ will be observed on October 2 at the same time as Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti.
