Andhra Women’s Premier League will start on September 19

Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) is organizing the Women’s Andhra Premier League (WAPL) to promote women’s cricket and provide more opportunities for young women cricketers, said ACA president and Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath.

Addressing the media at the ACA office in Vijayawada on Wednesday, the MP said Heritage Foods managing director Nara Brahmani will attend the opening match of the tournament to be held from September 19 to 27. He added that four teams will compete in the current WAPL season and all matches will be played at the Mangalagiri Stadium.

Entry is free, the MP said and urged the public to attend the event in large numbers. He added that special buses would be arranged to transport students from Vijayawada to the stadium.

From next season, WAPL matches will be held in Visakhapatnam and Kadapa to expand the tournament, the ACA president said.

A cycle rally will be held from Vijayawada to Mangalagiri on Thursday to create public awareness about the upcoming event. The MP appealed to sports enthusiasts, youth and students to participate in the rally.

The press meet was attended by Director of Cricket Operations, ACA, Kalyan Krishna, CEO Jai Kishan and others.
