The Samiti is against the proposed Basavadi Shivasharanara Hindu Samavesha in Kalaburagi

The proposed ‘Basavadi Shivasharanara Hindu Samavesha’ to be held on September 27 in Kalaburagi has drawn opposition from the Basava Tatva Haagu Samvidhana Rakshana Horata Samiti, which has questioned the organizers’ attempt to combine Basava philosophy and Vedic culture.

Announcing the program at a press conference here on Wednesday, Savitanandnath Swami of Konchur Mutt and a group of BJP leaders said Adrushya Kadasiddeshwar Swami of Kaneri Mutt will address the rally.

According to the organizers, apart from discussing Basava philosophy and Vedic culture, Kadasiddeshwar Swami would explain how time-tested agricultural practices along with modern techniques and innovations can be used to improve soil health, crop productivity, water management and sustainable agriculture. Such guidelines would help farmers understand the importance of these practices in solving current agricultural problems.

Members of Basava Tatva haagu Samvidhana Rakshana Horata Samiti Meenakshi Bali, RK Hudgi and Arjun Bhadre opposed the program and questioned the use of the term “Hindu” along with “Basavadi Sharanas”. They argued that Basaveshwar’s vachana philosophy and the Vedic tradition represented distinct ideological currents.

Ms. Bali claimed that Kadasiddeshwar Swami had offered an interpretation of the basava vachanas during an earlier conference that differed from their established context. She claimed that the court took note of his statements and warned him.

Ms. Bali and Mr. Hudgi further alleged that the program was linked to the RSS.

Members of the Samiti have announced that they will hold a protest against the proposed action in Kalaburagi on September 25. They would also protest on September 27, which coincides with the schedule.
