Naval vessels of India and Pakistan collide; MEA summons Pakistani envoy in New Delhi

India on Wednesday (September 16, 2026) summoned the chargé d’affaires of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and lodged a strong protest against the “unacceptable” and “unprofessional” behavior of Pakistani naval forces at sea that resulted in a collision with an Indian Navy unit.

The collision occurred on the evening of September 15, 2026, when a Pakistani naval ship approached a front-line Indian naval warship that was on a routine surveillance mission in the North Arabian Sea. The Pakistani vessel maneuvered at high speed in an unprofessional and dangerous manner, leading to the collision, sources said. No damage was reported.

“While the incident, which took place in international waters, did not cause any major damage, the conduct of the Pakistani naval vessel was in direct violation of Article 10 of the India-Pakistan Agreement on Advance Notification of Military Exercises, Maneuvers and Troop Movements of April 1991,” the MEA said in a statement.

“The Chargé d’affaires of Pakistan has been advised to convey to the concerned Pakistani authorities the need for all military units to exercise due care and respect the provisions of the relevant agreements between the two parties to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.”

India’s chargé d’affaires in Islamabad has also been instructed to lodge a similar protest with Pakistan’s Ministry of External Affairs.
