No breakfast! Chaotic start for Indian athletes ahead of Asian Games

Violation BENGALURU: The Indian athletics contingent that landed in Japan ahead of the Asian Games had a harrowing time as they waited for over four hours to check in at 10:00 am local time on Sunday. The men’s and women’s teams and coaches are accommodated in three different hotels more than four kilometers from the Tsukuba training facility.On Monday, the male contingent was shocked when their hotel staff informed them that no breakfast had been ordered for them.“The entire men’s team did not get breakfast at the hotel. The hotel staff said they did not receive a notification to serve breakfast to the athletes. Many athletes were without food that morning. Few of them went out and managed to eat something, but this revealed the lack of planning on the part of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) officials,” sources told TOI. “The athletes faced another problem on Monday evening when the designated bus did not arrive for them for training.They also said that they have to travel four kilometers for lunch and dinner. The Japanese hotel provided rice and soybeans for breakfast.“There is no special diet – no fruit (which is expensive in Japan). They were served rice, roti and chicken at an Indian restaurant,” the sources added. The Indian athletics contingent has landed in the Japanese city to conduct final preparations at the University of Tsukuba grounds.
