Harry Brook makes script history, becoming the first cricketer to do so in T20Is

England’s Harry Brook (AP photo) Harry Brook added another milestone to his remarkable run in 2026, becoming the only Full Member captain to score two T20I centuries in a calendar year.The England captain reached the milestone during his unbeaten 114 against Sri Lanka in the first T20I of the three-match series in Southampton on Tuesday. Brook’s century came in just 42 balls, with his final score of 114 coming from 49 deliveries.

Brook joins elite company

Brook’s latest hundred takes him top of the list for most centuries as a captain in a calendar year across the three international Full Member team formats.Ricky Ponting holds the Test record after scoring seven centuries as captain in 2006, while Virat Kohli registered six ODI hundreds as captain in 2017 and 2018.In T20Is, Brook now stands alone with two centuries in 2026.The England skipper also climbed the exclusive list of most T20I centuries as captain. His two hundreds came in just 23 innings, while Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam have three each in 62 and 78 innings.

Brook’s stunning run continues

The century against Sri Lanka extended Brook’s remarkable sequence. His last three T20I innings saw scores of 79* off 35 balls against India, 95* off 45 balls against India and 114* off 49 balls against Sri Lanka.This adds up to 288 runs at an average of 223.25.Brook’s latest attack came after England had already started with a bang. Jos Buttler, his predecessor as England’s white-ball captain, joined him in a 128-run partnership as the hosts posted 254.Buttler smashed 80 off 44 balls while Brook’s unbeaten 114 formed the centerpiece of another dominant England batting performance.

England cruise to victory by 119 runs

England’s batting had already put Sri Lanka under immense pressure and the hosts’ bowlers saw little chance of a comeback.Sonny Baker promptly hit 3/12 while Jamie Overton claimed two wickets. Baker’s pace proved particularly difficult for Sri Lanka to handle and the visitors regularly lost wickets during the chase.Dunith Wellalage provided some resistance with a 33-run blitz while Eshan Malinga added late runs, but Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out in the 19th over.England completed a comprehensive 119-run victory to take a 1–0 lead in the three-match series.However, the night belonged to another record for Brook as his second T20I century of 2026 made him the only full-member captain to do so in a calendar year.
