Stressing that delayed diagnosis of arthritis can lead to permanent damage to joints and deformations in individuals, on Sunday higher rheumatologists urged people to seek early intervention because it helps to slow its progress.
The webinar of “understanding arthritis” pointed out that smoking is a strong risk factor for rheumatoid arthritis and advocates changes in lifestyle, exercise, yoga and healthy diet, which has low carbohydrates and sugar, but rich in fiber and protein.
The webinar took place as part of the ongoing initiative “Healthy India Happy India” in Narvi, Vellore hospitals, in conjunction with Hindu. The Sunday edition was ninth in the series on the topic “Prevent disease, propagate wellness”.
N. Raja, senior consultant in rheumatology, Narvi, Vellore Hospital, spoke of the importance of correct diagnosis of symptoms and timely treatment. He said that arthritis was a roughly misunderstood clinical sign. “They do not count the disease, but it is joint inflammation, including knee, hip, wrist, shoulder, ankle, elbow and manifestations such as pain or swelling, and stiffness that reduce movements and affect everyday activities,” he added, adding that the systemic condition could lead to inflammation of the eyes, spine fusion and chronic deformities.
Throwing light on different types of arthritis – rheumatoid, psoriatic, osteoarthritis and DNA – Dr. Raja, albeit often associated with aging, could affect any age group, and therefore it was important to look for the right specialized care to prevent misconduct and delay in treatment.
MM Kavitha, a senior rheumatology advisor, Kauver Hospital, Radial Road, Chennai, said the awareness of arthritis was critical. People must be diagnosed during the initial window opportunity to keep them pain and without damage, said .
Dr. Kavitha said there was no test for diagnosis of arthritis. Combination of clinical history, physical examination, blood examination and imaging, such as X -ray, MRI, PET and bone scanning help in confirming the diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression.
S. Sham of Kauvera Hospital, Alwarpet, talked about how therapeutic protocols and steroids changed and painkillers were not the main treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. “Canice modifying diseases include different levels and combinations of drugs and lasts 8-12 weeks to start playing,” Dr. Sham.
Doctors have repeated the importance of patient education and recalled that once arthritis participates, it cannot be cured, but it can get into remission with regular monitoring, a comprehensive approach to treatment, including diet, exercise and psychological support.
