Habitual offender arrested after chase in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram rural police arrested a habitual offender after a dramatic chase in Balaramapuram on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Suresh alias Jambulingam Suresh, who hails from Balaramapuram, was allegedly evading arrest following the August 20 case of assault on a woman and her daughter.

The accused allegedly broke into their house and assaulted them before fleeing with the mobile phone. A case was subsequently registered by the Balaramapuram police.

According to the police, Suresh was hiding in makeshift shelters at Punnakkadu near Balaramapuram. During the investigation, the police received information that he was staying on the upper floor of an unfinished building.

A police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Neyyattinkar reached the spot to arrest him. On seeing the police team, the accused allegedly tried to escape by jumping from the second floor of the building. The police chased him and managed to arrest him after a chase.

Suresh is known to be an accused in nearly 40 criminal cases. In addition, he served 12 years in prison before returning to his hometown, where he allegedly formed a new gang and allegedly resumed various anti-social activities, including robberies.
