This goal broke Al Nassr’s previous record of 93 consecutive league matches, set by Buenos Aires-based Club Atlético River Plate between September 1936 and June 1939.Al Nassr’s run began on 8 December 2023 when they beat Al Riyadh 4–1. Their previous league game without a goal was a 3-0 defeat to Al Hilal. Since then, Ronaldo and his teammates have scored in every Saudi Pro League match they have played.A draw against Al Khaleej also completed Al Nassr’s preparations for their elite AFC Champions League campaign. They begin their continental campaign against Al Ain on September 16.Last season Al Nassr played in the AFC Champions League Two and reached the final after winning all 10 of their matches before losing 1-0 to Gamba Osaka.Ronaldo returned to Al Nassr following Portugal’s early exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup in what he has hinted is likely to be his last season in professional football. The 41-year-old won the Saudi Pro League in May 2026, his first major trophy in Riyadh, and will now look to defend the title in his 25th professional season.Ronaldo missed the opening game against Al-Fateh after returning from his wedding to Georgina Rodriguez. He returned on 21 August, scoring his 977th career goal off the bench. He has since scored three times in his first league appearances in the 2026–27 season.
