VMC is making special arrangements for immersion of Ganesha idols in Vijayawada

As many immersions of Ganesha idols are expected to take place on a large scale on Wednesday, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has made special arrangements at immersion sites across the city.

VMC has deployed additional sanitation personnel at all immersion sites to segregate and collect puja waste. Twelve sanitation workers have been deployed at the Prakasam barrage to segregate and collect flowers, puja materials and other waste generated during the immersion process.

VMC Commissioner Dhyanachandra HM said in a statement on Tuesday (September 15) that similar arrangements have been made at Punnami Ghat and Bhavani Ghat, with 10 sanitation workers deployed at each location.

Flying squads also visit various immersion sites across the city to monitor puja waste management. Around 15,000 kg of puja waste has been collected so far, he said.

Barricades have been installed near city canals while people are being educated and encouraged not to throw puja waste into canals or other water bodies. Garbage that accidentally enters the canals is also regularly removed using truck-mounted machines, Mr. Dhyanachandra said.

The collected flower waste is used to make products like incense sticks, while other puja waste is scientifically processed and used to make organic manure, he said.

Mr. Dhyanachandra appealed to the public to refrain from disposing of puja waste in canals and water bodies and instead hand it over to the personnel deployed by the corporation.
