UP Congress seeks one-time relief for state teachers exam aspirants due to new eligibility rules

Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee President Ajay Rai on Monday (September 14, 2026) asked for an opportunity for candidates to appear for State Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) and Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) Recruitment Examination 2026 based on previous eligibility rules.

In a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Mr. Rai appealed that the Uttar Pradesh Education Services Selection Board be directed to take a positive decision in the matter immediately.

The proposed UP TGT and PGT recruitment examination 2026 is to fill up to 23,123 vacancies in non-government aided secondary schools, Mr. Rai said, adding that he had received a representation with an important demand of candidates.

“I have received a representation with an important demand from candidates related to the proposed recruitment of UP TGT and PGT 2026 for non-government aided secondary schools, in which it has been mentioned that for this recruitment proposed for 23,123 vacancies, many candidates have obtained their education under the earlier rules and have been preparing for the recruitment exam for a long time.

The changes made in the eligibility and educational conditions before the recruitment process started have made a large number of these candidates ineligible in the current recruitment, Mr. Rai said.

“They were educated as per the rules and eligibility conditions applicable at that time and based on that they were preparing for recruitment. In such a situation, due to the change in eligibility conditions, it is natural that the opportunity to join the current recruitment of candidates preparing on the basis of predetermined qualifications will be affected,” the letter addressed to the UP CM said.

“Therefore, it will be balanced and fair to give them an opportunity based on the pre-existing rules,” added Mr. Rai.
