Tamil Nadu Minister S. Ramesh says “obscene, derogatory” remarks are DMK’s DNA

Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister S. Ramesh on Monday (14 September 2026) said that speaking “obscene and derogatory” was at the core of the opposition DMK’s DNA and warned of strict legal action against those making disparaging remarks against Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.

Speaking to journalists, the minister acknowledged that holding protests and demonstrations is a basic democratic right, but strongly condemned the use of profanity during political events.

His comments came a day after senior DMK leader A. Raja made an alleged personal attack on State Law Minister R/Nirmal Kumar during a DMK agitation.

“Speaking obscenely, defamingly and spreading lies is DMK’s DNA. It would be surprising if they don’t do that. We constantly stand against this culture,” the minister said.

The minister also attacked former chief minister MK Stalin and said that he fed the party with such a culture.

“The biggest example of this is his own son. He keeps making double-edged remarks, cheaply criticizes and speaks derogatorily about ministers…” Mr. Ramesh charged.

Responding to a query regarding former DMK HR&CE minister using disrespectful singular terms against the CM, Mr. Ramesh said the government would not tolerate it.

“Strong action will definitely be taken against anyone who makes derogatory remarks about the Chief Minister, women or the public. When your speech lacks ‘Aram’ (morality), what qualification do you have to run the HR&CE department?” he asked.

Mr. Ramesh also rejected AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s allegations regarding the rise in crimes against women in the last three months. Blaming the previous administration for deteriorating law and order, Mr. Ramesh said the current government was actively fixing the systemic problems left behind.

“Has crime suddenly increased in these three months? What we are witnessing is the continued deterioration of law and order from the last five years. Chief Minister Vijay is taking swift and concrete measures to ensure the safety of women by introducing a special task force ‘Singappen’ and a dedicated anti-narcotics wing,” he said.

Mr. Ramesh further appreciated the CM’s administrative initiatives and highlighted his efforts to elevate Tamil Nadu sports to the global stage by encouraging local talent to achieve international recognition.
