‘We shouldn’t play Pakistan’: World Cup winner reacts after India reject Asia Cup trophy by Mohsin Naqvi

Former Indian cricketer Madan Lal reacted after the Indian women’s cricket team failed to receive the Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi after winning the title on Sunday.Harmanpreet Kaur-led India beat Sri Lanka by 72 runs to claim a record eighth Women’s Asia Cup title. However, the Indian players did not come to the post-match presentation.

Madan Lal reacts to trophy controversy in Asia

Madan, a member of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning team, questioned the decision and said India should avoid playing Pakistan if such situations continue.“Same old story again. If we behave like this then we should not play Pakistan for any trophies. I know its decision of the board,” said Madan.The dispute for the Asian Cup trophy continues for the second year in a row.

Indian women skip trophy presentation

The Indian women’s team did not return to the field for the trophy presentation after winning the title.India’s decision came a year after the men’s team also refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy and medals from Naqvi.Naqvi is the chairman of the ACC and also heads the Pakistan Cricket Board. He is also the Home Minister of Pakistan.

India still without men’s Asia Cup trophy

The Indian men’s team won the Asia Cup last year but did not collect the trophy from Naqvi.India is yet to receive the trophy, which has been kept at the ACC office ever since.The Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team instead celebrated on the presentation stage without a physical trophy.

Sri Lanka accepts the runner-up prizes

Unlike the Indian team, the Sri Lankan players accepted a runner-up check from Naqvi. Earlier, all the Sri Lankan players and support staff were presented with medals by Sri Lanka’s interim cricket boss Eran Wikramaratne.Naqvi left the stadium immediately after presenting the award to Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu.
