For Ganeshotsav, Mumbai Police deploys more than 16,800 personnel

The Mumbai Police has deployed more than 16,800 policemen across the city as part of extensive security arrangements for Ganeshotsav 2026, with additional forces and specialized units deployed at key locations and on idol immersion days.
According to the Mumbai Police, the deployment includes seven additional commissioners of police, 37 deputy commissioners of police, 52 assistant commissioners of police, around 2,650 constables and 14,150 constables.
Squads of State Reserve Police Force, Rapid Response Teams, Riot Management Teams and Home Guards have also been deployed at important and sensitive locations across Mumbai as part of the festival’s security plan.
Police said separate arrangements have been made for the immersion of Ganesha idols as large crowds are expected at major immersion sites across the city. Additional personnel will be deployed on immersion days to handle crowds, traffic and law and order requirements.
The Mumbai Police appealed to citizens to remain calm and cooperate with personnel at crowded places. People have also been asked to alert the police immediately if they notice any unattended or suspicious object.
