Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has expressed concern that the central government is not procuring foodgrains in accordance with the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

The center does not procure even 30% of the total production, forcing the state to buy every grain produced by farmers. Interacting with a delegation of CPI (Marxist) leaders on Monday (May 25, 2026), the Chief Minister urged them to question the Center about its broken assurances on procurement of food grains.

He explained to the delegation that due to the elections in West Bengal, there was a shortage of hamalis (lifters) in the state. Work suffered in the afternoon due to the sweltering heat. The state government kept reviewing the situation with the officials concerned and took steps to purchase fine rice with a payment of ₹500 per cent bonus while procurement of maize with support prices was going on.

On other matters, Mr. Reddy told the CPI (M) delegation that families affected by the Musi rejuvenation project would be provided houses in the same vicinity and the government was committed to making the Musi river an attractive tourist destination. This would ensure beautification of the area and also create huge employment potential.

However, the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politicized the ambitious project, which aimed to provide a quality life to the city’s residents in general, and those living near the river in particular. He said the government is reforming the entire education system to provide quality education to the people and steps have been initiated to provide quality breakfast and lunch to students in various classes. The state government would soon open public schools in Telangana, he said, asking CPI (M) leaders to visit a school in Arutla where development work had started.
