Biscuitville, a small Southern breakfast chain, beats out McDonald’s and Chick-fil-A for America’s best breakfast place | Today’s news

Biscuitville may be much smaller than McDonald’s or Chick-fil-A, but when it comes to breakfast, the Southern chain continues to win over American diners.

For the fourth year in a row, this family-owned restaurant has been named the nation’s best fast-food breakfast joint in the 2026 USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards. It consolidated its first position over much larger competitors, with McDonald’s coming in at number four and Chick-fil-A at number five. Burger King and Wendy’s followed in sixth and seventh place.

Biscuitville is America’s new favorite breakfast spot

What makes the result particularly remarkable is Biscuitville’s relatively small footprint. The chain recently opened its 90th restaurant and operates only in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. By comparison, the national brands it beat out have locations across the United States and serve much larger customer bases.

Biscuitville Marketing Director Kristie Mitchell told Fox News Digital that the latest recognition is a reflection of the employees who prepare the food each morning, as well as the ingredients and cooking methods the company uses.

The chain’s approach is deliberately different from the efficiency-based model often associated with fast food.

His cookies are made from scratch every 15 minutes using a three-ingredient family recipe that Mitchell says he passed down from the founder’s grandmother. Restaurants also hand-crack eggs, while the company says the food doesn’t arrive partially cooked to be ready in the kitchen.

That means more prep and more behind-the-scenes work, though customers still expect their breakfast to arrive quickly, especially when ordering through the drive-thru.

For Mitchell, that extra effort is key to why customers keep coming back. “We don’t have any microwaves. There’s nothing immediate in our kitchens,” she told Fox News Digital.

Breakfast built on familiarity

Biscuitville’s offerings go beyond its signature biscuits. Customers can order bacon, egg and cheese biscuits, fried chicken biscuits, grits, hash browns and country gravy, along with pancakes and other breakfast options.

The company also emphasizes local ingredients and partnerships with family-owned suppliers, including eggs, chicken and bacon. Mitchell said the combination of these ingredients with the scratch preparation helps differentiate the chain in an increasingly crowded breakfast market.

But the appeal may not be all about what’s on the plate.

The Southern breakfast has a strong connection to comfort and family traditions, and that’s something Biscuitville believes can connect with customers even if they didn’t grow up in the South.

Mitchell said the company regularly receives feedback from customers who compare its cookies to those made by their grandmothers. That sense of familiarity, she suggested, can make a meal more than just a quick stop for food.

“I think it’s bigger than just a cookie,” Mitchell said. “It’s all the things that go in that cookie.

The idea seems to resonate. Biscuitville was chosen by readers for the USA Today 10Best after being among 20 nominees in the fast food breakfast category. Public voting ran for four weeks before the winners were announced on July 15. Biscuitville also placed third in the separate Best Regional Fast Food category.

The company, which was founded in 1966, said it eventually hopes to expand into states like Tennessee and Georgia. For now, however, it is focused on growing in existing markets.

That limited footprint hasn’t stopped the chain from competing with America’s biggest names in fast food. Its latest accolade suggests that breakfast, built on fresh preparation, familiar flavors and regional identity, can still stand out in a market dominated by national chains.
