40-year-old smokehouse owner murdered over domestic dispute

A 40-year-old chicken shop owner was allegedly murdered by his wife, her family members and a friend following a domestic dispute in Bidarahalli at Avalahalli police station on Wednesday, with the accused allegedly trying to make the death look like a suicide.

The victim, Mubarak Basha, a resident of Bidarahalli, lived with his wife Shahina Banu.

According to the complaint filed by his elder brother Shahul, the couple faced marital disputes and Shahina allegedly lived separately in Bengaluru for nearly two years before returning to Mubarak 10 months ago.

The complaint said Shahul received a phone call around 1 a.m. on September 9 informing him that Mubarak had died in the bathroom of his residence. Shahul claimed that when they arrived at the house, Banu prevented them from seeing Mubarak and that her behavior raised suspicions about the circumstances surrounding his death.

The body was subsequently subjected to a post-mortem before being handed over to the family for last rites.

Based on the complaint, a case of unnatural death was registered and Shahul sought action against Banu, Aseen and others, alleging their involvement in his brother’s death.

In the investigation report, the police found multiple injuries on Mubarak’s face and body. An autopsy indicated he died of asphyxiation.
