Plan to dine with Rishabh Pant: LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka has relations with the DC star

Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka has spoken publicly about Rishabh Pant following the wicketkeeper-palter’s recent exit from the franchise. Pant, the most expensive player ever bought in the history of IPL auctions, returned to Delhi Capitals as part of a market deal that also sent spinner Kuldeep Yadav to LSG.

Pant started his IPL journey with Delhi in 2016 and spent eight seasons with the franchise before being picked up by Lucknow Super Giants for a record Rs. 27 million in an auction before the 2025 season. However, LSG failed to make the playoffs in both of Pant’s seasons with the team, eventually paving the way for his departure.

The 28-year-old is expected to return to Delhi Capitals on a revised salary of Rs. 15 crore and is expected to lead the side from the IPL season 2027. On the Shubhankar Mishra podcast, Goenka was asked about his last conversation with Pant before he completed his move back to Delhi Capitals.

Interviewer: When Rishabh was leaving, what was your last meeting with him? You both ended it very happily.

Goenka: Our last conversation was not just about trade. We keep talking after that.

Good luck and best wishes. We plan to have dinner one day. pic.twitter.com/y6M2nx3TwJ— Drona (@drona_17) September 13, 2026

Goenka stated that he was still on good terms with Pant and they continued to chat even after the deal was completed.

“Our last conversation was not just about trade. We continued to talk after that,” Goenka said.

When asked about the nature of the interview, Goenk wished Pant well in his second stint at DC and said they also plan to meet for dinner in the future.

“Good luck and best wishes. We plan to have dinner one day,” Goenka added.

PANT’S LAST SEASON WITH LSG

In his last season for LSG, Pant scored 312 runs from 14 matches with just fifty to his name. His strike-rate was 138.05 and his performances were much criticised.

With him at the helm, LSG won just four games all season and finished 10th in the league table. Pant then stepped down as Lucknow captain before his eventual departure from the team.
