Malaysian Prime Minister’s visit: severe traffic restrictions in Kozhikode on 13 September

Extensive traffic restrictions will be in place in Kozhikode and surrounding areas on Sunday (September 13) in connection with the visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, traffic police said.

The restrictions will come into force from 5pm on Sunday. Full traffic restrictions will be enforced on the stretch from Vaidyarangadi and Ramanattukara to Malaparamba and from Malaparamba towards Kunnamangalam and Mavoor.

Vehicles coming from Wayanad side will have to enter Kozhikode city via Thamarassery, Balussery, Nanminda and Eranhipalam. Vehicles from Koduvalla side will be diverted via Padinjarathilam-Kalarikkandi-Varattiyakk-Peringalam while vehicles coming from Mukkam will have to take Chettukadavu-Peringalam route.

Vehicles from Kannur side will be diverted via Elathur-Pavangad-Nadakkava. Vehicles coming from the university side will have to take Idimuzhikkal-Ramanattukara-Feroke-Cheruvannur route to reach Kozhikode city.

Vehicles from the city towards Kunnamangalam will have to use the Medical College-Mundikkalthazham-Kottamparamba-Manathanath road. Vehicles from Malaparamba side will have to proceed via Poolakkadavu-Iringadanpalli-Mundikkalthazham-Kottamparamba-Manathanath towards Kunnamangalam.

Passengers traveling to Calicut International Airport and Railway Station have been advised to leave early. No vehicle parking will be allowed on the roads between Malaparamba, Kunnamangalam and Mavoor. Traffic on the route will be completely stopped during the movement of the VVIP convoy, the police said.

Mr. Anwar is scheduled to arrive at the Kozhikode International Airport at 6:30 pm on Sunday. He will be at Markaz from 19:30 to 21:30 to receive the first ‘Excellence Award’ introduced by Sheikh Abubacker Foundation. Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliyar will present the award at the ceremony.

The Malaysian Prime Minister will then visit CM Makham in Madavoor where he is expected to spend about 20 minutes before leaving for his residence at 10pm.

Kozhikode city and its adjoining areas were under tight security cover for the visit. Security arrangements for Mr. Anwar are being carried out on a similar scale to those laid down for the Prime Minister and President of India. Additional Director General of Intelligence Dinesh Kashyap recently visited the city to discuss the measures with security officials.
