South Coast Railway PCOM assesses freight infrastructure at Krishnapatnam port

Chief Operations Manager, South Coast Railway, Vineet Kumar visited Krishnapatnam Port along with other railway officials on Saturday.

South Coast Railway (SCoR) Chief Operating Officer Vineet Kumar visited Adani Krishnapatnam Port Limited and key railway stations and reviewed infrastructure development and cargo handling capacity.

Mr. Kumar discussed strengthening the rail infrastructure and increasing the cargo handling capacity of the port with the Port’s Managing Director Jagadeesh Patil.

Krishnapatnam Port has expanded its force loading infrastructure by adding a conveyor that allows two forces to operate simultaneously and improves loading efficiency.

With the addition of the mechanized berth, the port now has six mechanized berths and is capable of handling Capesize ships, each of which can carry more than one million tonnes of cargo.

The port has set a target of handling 25 million tonnes of cargo by rail during the current financial year against 22.7 million tonnes achieved in the previous financial year, SCoR officials said on Saturday.

Mr. Kumar also conducted a field inspection of railway stations and goods depots of Manubolu, Krishnapatnam, Rapur and Niduguntapalem. He evaluated the operational safety, efficiency and progress of ongoing development work.

Divisional Chief Operating Officer A. Suresh Reddy, Divisional Commercial Director G. Mohana Krishna and other officials accompanied Mr. Kumar.
