PM Modi holds bilateral meeting with Ethiopian PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali held discussions aimed at further strengthening the bilateral strategic partnership, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Saturday (September 12, 2026) after the conclusion of a bilateral meeting between the two leaders.

“They reviewed progress across key sectors, including economic cooperation, defense and security partnership and capacity building. The meeting built on Prime Minister Modi’s historic visit to Addis Ababa in December 2025,” the statement added.

He further said that the two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international developments of common interest and reaffirmed their commitment to close cooperation in multilateral forums.

“Prime Minister Modi expressed his appreciation for Ethiopia’s participation in the 18th BRICS Summit and noted that its presence helped strengthen the collective voice of the Global South,” the statement said.

Prime Minister Modi held key bilateral meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Friday (September 11, 2026).

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also held wide-ranging discussions with Mr Modi on Friday (September 11, 2026) on the current conflicts in West Asia and Ukraine.

Mr. Modi’s is scheduled to meet the UAE Crown Prince on Saturday (September 12, 2026) morning, ahead of the joint session.
