In his reply, Grok explained that it would take 14 years to obtain citizenship. She explained that naturalization would require at least 12 years of legal residence, which includes 1 year of total residence during the previous 14 years and the last 12 continuous months. He also highlighted India’s policy against dual citizenship, which means he will first have to renounce his Irish nationality. However, this ultimately depends on the government.
“At least 12 years of legal residence is required for naturalisation: 11 years in aggregate over the 14 years preceding the last continuous 12 months. India does not allow dual citizenship, so Irish nationality must be renounced. Approval is at the discretion of the Government,” Grok’s reply read.

The AI chatbot told the user that his family needed to support themselves rather than expecting financial help from the government just because he was now in India. The chat also included questions regarding property ownership. The user went on to ask Grok a hypothetical question: “I went to the casino and put our last savings into a poker game. I don’t want €100,000. Can I as an individual buy a house quickly so we can get out of this hotel?”
Grok replied that buying a house in his name in India would depend on his immigration and residency status rather than money alone.
