Shoaib Ibrahim shares Dipika Kakar’s weight loss update as experts look beyond the weight numbers | Today’s news
Actor Deepika Kakar’s noticeably slimmer look has sparked a new debate among fans after her husband, actor Shoaib Ibrahim, featured it in one of his recent YouTube vlogs.

The couple was seen working out together at the gym, where Shoaib talked about the visible changes in Dipika’s appearance. While he didn’t specify how much weight she lost, he said the change was significant.
“She has lost a lot of weight, just like the old days. She has lost a lot of weight through treatment, diet, etc,” Shoaib said in the vlog.
Dipika, who worked out alongside her husband, also thought about the transformation. “It’s been a long time … 4-5 years later, I’ve downsized,” she said.
Why does her weight loss matter?
The interview comes against the backdrop of Dipika’s widely documented journey to health. The actor was diagnosed with stage 2 liver cancer in 2025 and underwent surgery before continuing treatment. She recently started immunotherapy as part of her ongoing medical care.

Over the past few months, Dipika and Shoaib have also spoken publicly about gradual changes in her routine, including adjustments to her diet and walking. Earlier reports said she was making lifestyle changes under medical guidance, while the couple also warned against blindly copying another person’s diet or fitness routine.
But her latest appearance also highlighted an important distinction that can often get lost in social media conversations about celebrity transformations: visible weight loss doesn’t necessarily reveal the full picture of a person’s health.
What experts say about her weight loss
As reported by The Indian Express, nutritionist and fitness expert Garima Goyal said the circumstances surrounding the weight loss were crucial in determining whether it was beneficial.
“Weight loss is not always intentional, and weight loss does not automatically mean someone is healthier. Planned weight loss achieved through appropriate diet, exercise and lifestyle changes is very different from weight loss that occurs during illness or as a result of medical treatment,” Goyal said.
She further noted that long-term illness and treatment can sometimes lead to loss of muscle mass and reduced nutritional reserves, so adequate nutrition and strength are equally important.
This distinction is particularly important for persons undergoing serious medical care. Weight can change as a result of intentional lifestyle adjustments, but it can also fluctuate due to illness, treatment-related side effects, changes in appetite, and other health factors. During cancer treatment, nutrition may need to be carefully tailored rather than approached through conventional weight loss goals.

“Social media often immediately celebrates a smaller body, but weight alone cannot tell us whether weight loss is healthy, intentional or beneficial,” Goyal said, adding that it also depends on a person’s energy level, muscle strength, nutritional status, recovery and overall health.
For someone in treatment, she stressed, further weight loss isn’t necessarily the priority. Depending on the individual condition and treatment plan, maintaining calorie intake, protein, muscle mass, strength, and quality of life could be more important.
Deepika’s visible transformation may have caught viewers’ attention, but the broader conversation serves as a reminder that looks alone cannot define recovery. A smaller number on the scale may be noticeable. However, health is rarely that simple.
