Hyderabad Police challenged the bail of BRS MLCs

The Saifabad police has asked the court to cancel the bail granted to BRS MLC Tata Madhu and Naveen Reddy, who were arrested under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for allegedly making offensive remarks against Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.

The two lawmakers were arrested on Tuesday following complaints about their alleged remarks against the Speaker. The police sought their remand, but the court rejected the plea and granted them bail on personal guarantees.

On Thursday, the police again approached the court to cancel the relief granted to the two MLCs. The move comes amid ongoing action against BRS leaders following a confrontation between party legislators and the police at Gate No. 3 of the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Monday.

The police case against the MLC was based on complaints that they had used abusive language against the speaker. Their arrest under the SC/ST Act sparked a political confrontation with BRS leaders questioning the action and seeking an independent probe into the CCTV footage of the incident at the assembly gate.

The latest petition seeking cancellation of bail adds another legal dimension to the confrontation that has already resulted in several FIRs, arrests and suspension of BRS legislators from the assembly for the rest of the monsoon session.
