Havildar Jhantu Ali Shaikh of the Indian Army was killed during the anti -terrorist operation in the Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday (April 24, 2025). Member 6 Para (special strength) came from the village of Patharghata in Krishhnanagar, Nadia district in West Bengal.
His death comes the day after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists, including three from Western Bengal.

In the statement of Congress Trinamool, he expressed his condolences and paid tribute to the soldier and described him as a “hero of Bengal”. “We Pay Solemn Tribute to Havildar Jhantu Ali Sheikh of 6 Para (Special Forces), Indian Army, Who Laid Down His Life in the Line of Duty and Counter-Terror Operation in Udhampur. And Son of Patharghata Village in Krishhnagar Valour, selflessness, and service to the nation.
Trinamool Member of Krishhnanagar, Mahu Moitr, also expressed his condolences and recalled that Havildar Shaikh came from her election district.
Party spokesman Kunal Ghosh said that the entire trinamool leadership, including the main Minister Mamata Banerjee, stood in solidarity with a surviving family. “Those who indulge in dividing policies over religion must explore. Instead, they should honor the courage and victim of Jhant Ali Sheikha,” he said.

Tehatta Mla Tapas Saha visited the residence of the soldier to offer his family condolences. Rajya Sabha MP Samirul Islam noted that a fallen soldier came from a marginal farmer’s family and made a final sacrifice in the duty of the nation. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his mourning family – we stand with them in this hour of sadness,” said Mr. Islam on the X -Social Media platform.
He also appealed against the municipal politicization of the terrorist attack of Pahalgam and said, “Terrorism has no religion, and terrorists do not recognize any faith.”
