Sarvi Food Court, 7 sisters, Habitat Cafe, among Hyderabad restaurants to face lawsuit after food safety audit

Several well-known Hyderabad restaurants and cafes, including Habitat Cafe, Sarvi Food Court, 7 Sisters Restaurant, Keshava Reddy Sweets, Seasons Xpress and All Seasons Restaurant, are facing legal action following a food safety inspection by the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) on Thursday, September 10 | Photo credit: Special arrangement

Ten enforcement teams comprising food safety officials and police personnel inspected 21 restaurants, bakeries, patisseries, hotels and hostels during the drive and found numerous food safety and hygiene violations in some establishments.

Violations included the use of spoiled or contaminated meat and vegetables, cockroach, fly and rodent infestations, unsanitary premises, poor record keeping and unclean refrigerators. Officials also found inadequate segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, mislabelling, expired food products, food infested with pests and poor personal hygiene among food handlers.

TG SAFE said 13 food samples were taken for suspected adulteration, while rotten and rotten vegetables and food products found to be infested with insects or pests were thrown away on the spot.

TG SAFE said improvement notices will be issued for 7 Sisters, Habitat Cafe, The Nawab’s Restaurant, Keshava Reddy Sweets, Seasons Express Restaurant and All Seasons Restaurant in Banjara Hills, along with Sri Venkateshwara Lodge and Ashoka Hotel in Lakdikapool. Establishments will be re-inspected to verify that identified deficiencies have been corrected, followed by further action based on compliance.

Meanwhile, Casa Laban, Sarvi Food Court and Dakini Sweet Treats in Banjara Hills and The Central Court Hotel in Lakdikapul will be issued showdown notices. Further sanctioning measures would be initiated based on violations recorded during inspections.

In more serious cases, TG SAFE has suspended the FSSAI licenses of Lakshmi Sri Balaji Sweets and Bakery, Girl Friend Mandi, Kholani’s Fine Dine Restaurant and Kakatiya Tiffins Meals and Snacks for numerous hygiene deficiencies and ordered them to cease business operations immediately in the interest of public health.

Besides, during the nationwide inspection, TG SAFE also suspended the FSSAI licenses of M/s Mahendra Meals, Biryani and Curry Point at Ghanpur Station, Sri Balaji Magic Mithai at Baopet, Karimnagar and M/s Cha Cha Family Dabha at NH-65 in Tupranpet District at Choutuppal, Choutuppal, Yadadri Bhu. The action followed inspections by authorities at 46 food establishments, including restaurants, bakeries, dhabas, hotels, patisseries and hostels.
