Bank strike closes branches in Vizianagaram; no services until September 15th

Banking services were curtailed on Friday (September 11, 2026) in Vizianagaram district, with employees joining a strike for a five-day work week.

Customers will be without services for the next three days, with the second Saturday, Sunday and Vinayaka Chavithi on Monday, September 14 following the strike.

In response to the call of the United Forum of Bank Unions, employees of all cadres took part in a march from Ananda Gajapathi Auditorium to Fort Junction.

Vizianagaram Bank Employees Coordinating Committee president BV Prasad said bank managements ignored the five-day week requirement even though many private and public sector companies in the country have adopted the practice.

He said that Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) should be extended to all employees instead of selected employees. He asked the management of the bank to negotiate with the labor unions before taking any new policy decision that could affect the working conditions of the employees.
