Railway Police recovers 120 lost mobile phones worth ₹25 crore in Andhra Pradesh

In a joint operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) recovered 120 lost mobile phones worth around ₹25,000.

The phones have been stolen or gone missing at Eluru, Gudivada, Machilipatnam and Vijayawada railway stations in the last three years, Deputy Superintendent of Railway Police (DSRP) RG Jaya Surya said.

Railway police inspectors JV Ramana and MV Durga Rao, who exhibited the recovered mobile phones to the media on Thursday, said the lost phones were traced using advanced technology of the core IT team.

RPF Inspectors Fateh Ali Baig and K. Madhusudhan Rao appealed to passengers not to leave mobile phones near windows, not to leave them unattended while charging at night and to lock phones.

“If a mobile phone is stolen, passengers are requested to file a complaint on 139 or the nearest police station and freeze the bank account immediately,” Railway Crime Bureau (RCRB) circle inspector M Ashok said.

Ganja arrested, five arrested

In a separate operation, GRP, Vijayawada and EAGLE police busted a ganja smuggler and arrested five persons.

The saleswoman involved in the case is on the run.

On the instructions of IGP-Railways B. Raj Kumari and Superintendent of Railway Police Rahul Dev Singh, several police teams conducted raids and seized ganja stock worth around ₹19 lakh. The accused were transporting contraband to various states.

The arrested have been identified as Pratap Chhatria, Pramood Chhatria and Bishikeshan Jani from Odisha and Prakash and Yogesh from Karnataka, GRP CI Mr. Ramana said.

“Another accused, Teju, Yogesh’s wife, is absconding,” said Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB-CI) Mr. Madhusudhan Rao.
