Ganesha celebrations from September 14; immersion on September 25

The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi (BGUS) has announced that installations of Ganesh idols across the city will begin on September 14, while a mass immersion procession will be held on September 25.

BGUS President Rajasekhar Reddy, General Secretary R. Shashidhar and other officials said at a press conference on Thursday that immersion arrangements have been made at 150 designated places, including Vinayaksagar (Hussainsagar), Saroornagar Lake, Ameenpur Lake and Kapra Lake, besides about 110 ponds.

Organizers said extensive preparations have been made over the past three months in coordination with the police, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board and other government departments to ensure smooth running of the festivities.

They emphasized that the traditional devotional and cultural programs associated with the festival should be encouraged within the existing regulations. The Samiths also appealed to the authorities against imposing “unnecessary” restrictions on the use of sound systems during the celebrations.

The festival would generate significant economic activity and benefit local artisans and people involved in traditional occupations, organizers said. They added that cultural programs related to ‘Vande Mataram’, Telangana Liberation Day, Sant Ravidas and other themes would be organized during the festival period.
