In response to growing concerns about non -functional safety systems in public transport and goods vehicles, the Karnataka department instructed cabin owners that the equipment for monitoring vehicles (VltD) and emergency panic buttons must be fully functional and easily accessible.
This step is governed by a number of complaints and videos of viral social media, in which cabins have claimed that VltD in their vehicles were not functional and more critical are not associated with the command and control center of the Shanthinagar department. One such video showed that the driver squeezed the panic button without the apparent reaction of the authorities, which led to public outrage.
The clarification of the situation, head of the transport official of the Department of Transport stated that the device was either incorrectly installed or turned on, which makes them ineffective. “In some vehicles, it was found that the connection for the VltDS buttons and the emergency buttons was disconnected and in others the power supply to the system was not active,” the clerk said. “This meant that even if the button was pressed in an emergency, no signal would have reached the control room.”
The department officials say that once the Panic button is pressed, the exact location of the vehicle is transmitted to the command center. From there, a warning to the police station for jurisdiction is sent to the immediate response. The official added that the ministry has explored the requirements for non -functional equipment and some of them found that they were unfounded or for the installation forfeiture.
In December 2023, the state government issued an order ordered the installation of the VltD and emergency buttons in all public transport and national permitted goods to increase passenger safety. The equipment is designed to monitor vehicles in real time and offer emergency assistance in case of emergency.
However, the harmony was inconsistent. Many vehicle operators quoted financial difficulties and lack of regulation awareness as reasons for non -compliance. Some drivers claimed that they had paid up to 15,000 GBP for installing the system just to consider it non -functional due to incorrect settings.
