Gold jewellery, cash stolen from houses in Ranipet district

Thieves decamped with 27 sovereigns of gold jewelery and Rs 1 lakh in cash from two houses in Thimiri village near Arcot town in Ranipet on Sunday.

Police said that in the first incident, the victim S. Thamizharasi (34) was living with her three daughters in Thimiri village after her husband K. Saravanan, a former army personnel, died several years ago. Initial investigation revealed that Thamizharasi had gone to her mother-in-law’s house in Arcot town on Friday along with her children. When she returned, she saw that the main door had been broken. She checked the cupboard and found 18 sovereigns of gold jewellery, ₹53,000 in cash missing.

In a separate incident on the same street, robbers made off with nine sovereigns of gold ornaments and ₹47,000 in cash from the house of J. Kokila, 50. Police said Kokila had gone to her relative’s house in Ranipet town and when she returned home, she found valuables and cash missing.

Based on the warning, the police from Thimiri rushed to the house with forensic experts. Fingerprints were taken. Police took footage along the route where the house is located. Superintendent of Police P. Sibin formed special teams to nab the culprits. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
