Rahul Gandhi seeks views of students ahead of the next Chhatron Ki Goonj event in Indore on September 19

Ahead of the fifth edition of his Chhatron Ki Goonj program in Indore on September 19, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday canvassed the views of students on issues plaguing the country’s education system.
The Congress is looking to scale up the Chhatron Ki Goonj initiative, which literally translates to ‘Echo of Students’, as part of its outreach to students and young voters. Mr. Gandhi, who conducted similar interactions with students in Kota, Dehradun, Prayagraj and Pune, said hearing the concerns and views of students across the country was essential to change the system.
In a post on X, Mr Gandhi said the education system had “quenched” the hopes of many young people and left their futures uncertain. He invited students to share what is stopping them from achieving their aspirations and encouraged them to send their views through an online feedback form or video messages.
Amplifying student concerns
In a video accompanying his post, Mr Gandhi said the initiative was aimed at bringing students’ concerns before the country and highlighting the issues they wanted to address.
“The aim of Chhatron ki Goonj is to keep your thoughts, speech and concerns in front of the country. And also to highlight the issues that our students want to raise,” he said. “And in this way, the idea of Chhatron ki Goonj is to give a voice to the Indian students – the tribal students, those on hunger strike and the students who died in the building collapse in Delhi. There are examples of this all over the country,” Gandhi added.
Claiming that students have lost faith in the education system, the opposition leader urged students to express their views through a link he shared on his social media. “We want you to tell us what you think about the education system. It could be the examination system, it could be the type of pressure it puts you under, it could be the hostels, the accommodation… we want to hear from you what makes you lose hope in our education system,” he said.
