NDPS contraband depots have been opened in Eluru district

Collector K. Vetriselvi along with Superintendent of Police (SP) K. Pratap Shiva Kishore inaugurated the NDPS permanent contraband storage room near the District Police Office (DPO).

Ms. Vetriselvi said that the material seized by the departments concerned under the NDPS Act will be preserved and protected at the facility.

“The storage room, which would be under the control of the judiciary, has been constructed at a cost of ₹ 30 crore. Round-the-clock security, CCTV, internal and external registers will be maintained,” an officer told The Hindu on Thursday.

The SP said that all drugs, ganja and other contraband seized under the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 will be kept in the warehouse.

The ganja and other material seized and kept in the temporary smuggling room will be shifted to the new room and steps will be taken to deposit the seizure at the station, he said.

“All measures are being taken for the safe custody of seized contraband such as narcotics, ganja and other material, inspection of storage registers and disposal of seized contraband,” he said.

Officers of the Elite Anti-Drug Enforcement Group (EAGLE), Police, Revenue, Nasha Mukth Bharat Abhiyan, Roads and Buildings and other departments participated in the programme.
