Man sentenced to 10 years RI for possession of 2.04 kg of opium
A city court sentenced a 44-year-old man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh for possession and sale of opium in Bengaluru.
Accused Bhagirath Dewasi, a resident of Devanahalli, was arrested by the Girinagar Police on 19 July 2021 following a tip-off that a person was selling narcotics behind Indira Canteen at Banashankari 3rd Stage.
Acting on information, a police team conducted a raid and arrested Dewasi. The police seized 2.04 kg of opium and a two-wheeler from him
The Girinagar police registered a case under the NDPS Act and arrested the accused, who was subsequently remanded in judicial custody.
After the trial, the court convicted Dewasi and sentenced him to 10 years rigorous imprisonment on 29 August 2026.
