India have terminated the contract of team physio Kamlesh Jain after the Sri Lanka tour, with the physio currently on notice, India Today reported. The vacant position is expected to be filled as the BCCI intends to make changes in its medical and support staff.

Jain’s position has come under scrutiny amid a worrying string of injuries and health problems involving several Indian players. In 2022, he took over as the team’s head physio after replacing Nitin Patel.

The decision comes after months of concerns surrounding India’s injury management. BCCI management and team management had earlier questioned Jain due to repeated breakdowns and an apparent drop in fitness standards. There were also concerns about frequent cramping and the players’ fitness during the England tour.

INDIA FEARING INJURY REFUSES TO GO

The problems continued into the run-up to the Sri Lanka Tests. Nitish Kumar Reddy was ruled out with a left quadriceps injury while Harshit Rana was unavailable after returning from a long injury layoff. Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness has also been a big concern, while Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar have had fitness issues ahead of the series.

India ended the two-Test series with a 1-0 victory after the second Test in Colombo ended in a draw. The guests were looking forward to another win after the continuation, but Sri Lanka put up a remarkable fight on the last day under the leadership of Sonal Dinuswho scored his second century of the match.

Despite missing several regulars, India found positives in the series with youngsters like Manav Suthar, Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel impressing. The result also kept India fifth in the World Test Championship standings with 51.52 per cent points.

India now move into a busy white ball schedule. They will face Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series in Delhi from September 13 before turning their sights on the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. India, the defending champions, will begin their campaign at the Asian Games later in September.

With another tough phase of the season looming, India will be hoping that changes to their support staff will help address the recurring fitness issues that have affected the 2026 squad selection.
