A long way

Railways continue to allocate significant budgetary resources to network expansion. It has a budget in 2026-27 ₹36,722 crore on new lines and ₹4,600 crore to convert the gauge, making the combined allocation around ₹41,300 million crowns. As of 1 April 2026, 198 projects involving new lines and gauge reconstruction have been approved, covering approximately 20,600 km.
