China has refused to confirm President Xi Jinping’s visit to India for the upcoming 2026 BRICS summit. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kuo Jiakun said on Thursday, according to local media, “Regarding the question you raised, I currently have no information to provide.”

Former BRICS Sherpa and Indian diplomat Sanjay Bhattacharyya said it was true that the Chinese had not formally confirmed Xi’s presence.

However, Bhattacharyya said that these occasions when we have multilateral meetings are also opportunities for bilateral interaction.

“India and China, as you know, are two great civilizational powers. Both of us are emerging economies and superpowers today. We have had differences between India and China, but I expect that we will agree that we will be able to cooperate on various issues, especially on regional and multilateral issues,” Bhattacharyya told news agency ANI.

“We expect that there will be a sense of competition in the economic field, but there will also be cooperation as the opportunities for both sides to work together are huge…,” Bhattacharyya added.
