DMK declares Sethu Selvam as candidate for Thattanchavada poll

DMK candidate Sethu Selvam challenges Chief Minister MK Stalin

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has declared K. Sethu Selvam as the party’s candidate for the Thattanchavady constituency in Puducherry to be held on October 6.

Mr Selvam, a former Communist Party of India (CPI) member, met former chief minister and DMK president MK Stalin in Chennai on Wednesday before the party announced his candidature.

As the CPI candidate in the 2021 Assembly polls, Mr. Selvam came second in the Thattanchavady constituency against Chief Minister and AINRC founder N. Rangasamy. He won about 32% of the vote in the 2021 election.

After his expulsion from the CPI in 2025 due to allegations of financial impropriety, Mr. Selvam contested as an independent from Thattanchavada in April 2026.

He came third with around 17% of the vote, pushing Member of Parliament and PCC chief V Vaithilingam to fourth.
