Hyderabad CP reviews arrangements for immersion of Ganesh idols and demands strict security and traffic arrangements

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar chaired an inter-departmental coordination meeting at Visvesvaraya Bhavan in Khairatabad on Wednesday to review arrangements for Ganesh Chaturthi and idol immersion processions in the city.

During the meeting, Mr. Sajjanar directed all the departments to work closely together and take preventive measures based on the learnings of the last five years. He directed the officials to remove loose and hanging electric, cable and internet wires along the procession routes and ensure sufficient height to avoid accidents.

He also directed the officials to ensure that the Ganesh mandapam gets a safe electrical connection as per regulations, with mandatory earthing and approvals from the Electrical Inspectorate. Officials from the power plants were asked to coordinate with the police and notify local police stations before shutting down power or removing wires.

All the ongoing road, nal and slab works along the main and feeder routes have been directed to be completed by September 14-15. No new excavation, drilling or laying of cables will be allowed until the idol immersion process is completed, officials said.

In view of the ongoing construction of the Old Town subway, officials have also been urged to speed up the movement of power poles along the affected routes. The health department has been asked to set up 26 special medical camps across the city along with dedicated camps in Balapur area. The camps will be equipped with ambulances and round-the-clock medical staff.

Officials of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation have been directed to ensure uninterrupted supply of drinking water and sanitation during the festivities.

To manage traffic, authorities have been instructed to identify adequate parking and parking spaces. Transport department officials have been asked to ensure enough buses, trucks and drivers. Police have also directed the departments to submit details of static and mobile cranes, including their operators, supervisors and maintenance teams, in advance of the shift to facilitate the dipping process.

Authorities have been asked to inform the public about important measures, including closure of queues at major Ganesha idols such as the Khairatabad Ganesh, through telecasts and press announcements.

Special arrangements for public transport are also planned for the last day of the immersion on 25 September. Metro Rail services are expected to operate till 1 am while MMTS night services will connect key stations including Nampally, Lakdi-ka-pul, Khairatabad, Sanjeevaiah Park, James Street and Begumpet.
