AS Rome will wear special jerseys for Nepal in the Champions League match

AS Roma will take to the pitch in Istanbul in a special Nepal kit during their Champions League match against Fenerbahce. The one-off t-shirt replaces their usual sponsor with a message to support relief efforts following the country’s devastating floods and landslides.

Roma’s regular shirt sponsor, Eurobet.live, cannot be displayed in Turkey due to gambling and betting advertising restrictions. Instead, the Italian club teamed up with the UN’s World Food Program (WFP) to use the match as a platform to raise awareness of the humanitarian crisis in Nepal.

The special jersey will feature the WFP logo on the front along with the message “Together for Nepal” and the Nepalese flag. The initiative comes after a major natural disaster left thousands of people in urgent need of aid.

“The visitors will take to the pitch with the World Food Program (WFP) logo on the front of their shirts,” Roma said before the match.

ROMA TURN SPONSORSHIP RULE INTO EFFORT

Instead of taking to the field with an empty shirt, the Roma turned Turkey’s advertising restrictions into an opportunity to support those affected by the disaster.

A flash flood triggered by a glacier and rock slide near the China-Nepal border on August 26 caused a devastating humanitarian crisis. According to the figures provided, at least 1,410 people have died, while 5,651 remain missing.

The club’s partnership with WFP will extend beyond Wednesday’s game, with special shirts contributing to the organisation’s relief efforts.

WRESTLING SHIRTS TO SUPPORT NEPAL

The jerseys worn by the Gian Piero Gasperini players during the match will be auctioned after the match, with all proceeds going to WFP’s emergency operations in Nepal.

Fans will also be able to donate through a special challenge on the UN’s ShareTheMeal app. The auction and fundraising campaign will provide additional support for WFP’s ongoing emergency response in Nepal.
