100 days of Operation Toofan saw an increase in drug-related cases and a decrease in crimes against women and children

The State Government’s anti-drug Operation Toofan has completed 100 days, with official figures indicating significant results including a noticeable drop in serious crimes against women and children.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said in a statement that the number of drug-related cases increased from 9,208 to 10,301, with the number of arrests increasing from 9,947 to 11,146, compared to the data from June 2, 2026, with the corresponding period in 2025. In addition, 5,718 cases of cigarette smoking were registered. (COTPA).

The seizures included 23,571.253 g of MDMA, 1,228,527 kg of ganja and 4,740,839 g of hashish oil. The total amount of seized narcotic substances was approximately 1,259 kg compared to 1,058.66 kg in the same period last year, which represents an increase of almost 19%.

The minister further said that the total number of cases of crimes against women and children fell from 13,631 to 13,371, a decrease of 1.9%. Rape cases fell from 740 to 593, a 19.9% ​​drop, while serious POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses) cases saw a 13.6% drop from 595 to 514.

Kidnapping cases fell from 374 to 315, dowry deaths from four to one, and human trafficking cases from 11 to four.

During this period, the number of homicide cases fell from 79 to 70, while the number of wrongdoing cases fell from 29 to 22.
